Do's and Don't of Candle Care

ree

Elegant and sophisticated candles are the perfect finishing touch to the decoration of any home, not only for their wonderful fragrance, but also for the cozy candlelight they cast. To help you get the most out of your candles, we've put together do's and dont's of candle care tips. If you want your candle to burn clearer and brighter always, do follow these given tips.

Let it burn for about 3 to 4 hours straight

One of the most common candle mistakes is leaving candles burning too long — or not burning long enough. Candles are designed to burn for three to four hours at a time. So you'll want to get as close to this burn time as possible. If you go too short, your candle may tunnel or not smell very fragrant. The fragrance is released by evaporation from a pool of hot wax, so the bigger the pool of hot wax, the more it can emit. If you go too long, your candle may get too hot and its wax may become too thin. Heat can damage some of the fragrance oils in your candle and thin wax can cause your candle to deposit soot.

Do not put it in a windy place

Wind can cause your candle to burn unevenly, which can lead to tunnelling. Keep the candle away from vents, windows, or drafts. If you notice that the flame flickers or seems to tunnel, move the candle to a location with less air movement.

Place it on a heat-resistant surface

This may seem obvious, but it bears repeating. Before lighting the candle, make sure it is on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Otherwise, you may damage the furniture. And, of course, keep the candle away from flammable objects—and away from children or pets who might knock it over.

Maximize your Scent

Open windows and doors will disperse the smell and reduce concentration. For maximum fragrance, keep windows and doors closed and burn in desired area for 30 minutes before entering.

Avoid Direct Sunlight

Avoid placing your candles where they will be directly exposed to sunlight or harsh indoor lighting, such as a spotlights; instead place it in the cool and dry place.

Trim the Wick

It is very important to keep the wick short to get the most out of your candle. We recommend trimming the wick before each lighting. The wick should only be around 1/4th inch in length, keeping it at this length will prevent mushroom build-up which can result in unnecessary soot. This also controls the size of the flame, allowing you to get the most time out of your candle. Trimming your candle's wicks before burning is the best way to ensure a clean burn.
